Charlie

[Verse 1]
November wind is blowing cold
But the kitchen light is warm
Some love just grows more sure with time
Like an oak that's weathered storms
We were high school kids with stars in our eyes
Fifty-three years of you by my side

[Chorus]
Happy birthday, Charlie, seventy-five
You still make this old heart come alive
So loving, so patient, so gentle and kind
The finest man I'll ever find
Like our wedding song, I'll say it again
You're my best friend

[Verse 2]
We packed the kids for camping trips
And sang by firelight
Took the whole crew to Disney World
Their faces shining bright
Four sons we raised, two daughters gained
Five grandbabies who light your days

[Chorus]
Happy birthday, Charlie, seventy-five
You still make this old heart come alive
So loving, so patient, so gentle and kind
The finest man I'll ever find
Like our wedding song, I'll say it again
You're my best friend

[Bridge]
When we lost our Eric, the sky fell down
But you kept our feet on solid ground
You were our rock when I couldn't stand
And you held this family in your hands

[Verse 3]
From curling rinks to Nashville nights
Hawaii, Vegas, Niagara Falls
You served your Inuit people well
With honors on the wall
But the thing I love the most, my dear
Is the family we built, gathered here

[Chorus]
Happy birthday, Charlie, seventy-five
All your family's here at your side
So loving, so patient, so gentle and kind
The finest man I'll ever find
Like our wedding song, I'll say it again
You're my best friend

[Outro]
Through every mile and every year
I'd choose you all over again
You're my best friend
