A Beautiful story
Island Life
Born in Zamboanga City Philippines ~ 1946
Rosario Isiang Garcia was born on October 7, 1946 to Cunegunda and Eduardo Garcia. Affectionally known as "Chat" all her life, she was the third of six children in the Garcia family.
Becoming an American Teenager
Merchantville High School ~ Class of 1964
When Chat was 17 years old, she entered an essay contest hosted by Lions Club International. and won first place. Her prize was a chance to travel to Merchantville, New Jersey, and study as an exchange student. In America, she became the adopted fourth daughter of Donald and Patty Parvin her homestay family, a family she remains close to to this day.
Learning to Serve
San Pedro Hospital School of Nursing ~ Class of 1968
Answering the call to serve, Chat studied and graduated from San Pedro Hospital, School of Nursing, where she served as Class President and Editor and Chief of the school newspaper.
University Life and Finding Mr. Right
Far Eastern University ~ Class of 1970 and becoming Mrs. Martin Dino in 1971
Continuing her formal education, Chat went on to study at Far Eastern University where she earned her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. At FEU, she served as the Representative of the College of Nursing where she met and fell in love with the Student Council President, Martin P. Dino Jr. She and Marty graduated in 1968 and married in 1971. They have two daughters, Michelle and Marianne
The American Dream Takes Flight
Moving to New York 1972
The Dino Family moved to New York in 1972. Chat started working in the ICU unit at La Guardia Hospital in New York City. They lived in Rosedale, New York until 1980.
California Dreamin'
Moving to California 1980
Packing up all of their belongings, the Dino Family moved out west and made a home in West Covina, California. They have called California home for 46 years.
Continuing to Serve
A new career in California
Chat worked for St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, California, for over 20 years and Queen of the Valley Hospital in Covina, California, for 12 years. Later she became the Director of Nursing at several Home Health agencies. Since Today, she works for Owl Western Pharmacy as an IV Consultant.
Becoming a Grandma
Promoted to Mama Chat in 2008
In 2008, Chat was promoted to grandma when her first grandchild, Ryan Michael Kish was born. Two years later, Ryan's little sister, Megan Christine Kish was born. Now that she has been promoted, she uses her new title and goes by Mama Chat.
A Second Chance at Love
Becoming Mrs. Prewitt
Marty passed away just before Ryan was born. Mama Chat had a career, friends, and grandchildren to keep her busy. A love connection through Christian Mingle brought David Prewitt into her life. After a one-year courtship, Mama Chat became Mrs. David Prewitt on December 12, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Ministering to Others
Volunteer work with Marriage Encounter, Cursillo, and Lions Club
Mama Chat and Papa Marty served as the Founders and President Couple of Marriage Encounter of Southern California. Later, Chat served as Class Head Coordinator of Cursillos of Christianity. In 2022, Mama Chat was elected President of the Lions Club LUZVIMIN Chapter and to the Board of Directors of the Lions Club Venice-Marina del Rey-LAX Chapter.
Friends, Family, and Golden Girls
Friends & Family, and Friends that have become Family
Although she has a small immediate family, Mama Chat is blessed with a large extended family of nieces and nephews. Over 80 years, Mama Chat has many lifelong friends. People she has known since her childhood, people she has bowled with for decades, and girlfriends she has gone to lunch with and played mahjong with for years. Along the way, she has adopted many. She cherishes and loves them as her own.
Celebrating 75 Years
In 2021, we celebrated Mama Chat's 75th Birthday!
We were just getting through COVID when we celebrated Mama Chat's 75the Birthday at Pacific Palms Resort.
Celebrating 80 Years
In 2026, we are celebating Mama Chat's 80th Birthday!
