John J. Engle

[Verse 1]
Mornin' light on quiet halls,
Slow and steady, footsteps small.
Through these years I've come to know
The truest love just grows and grows.
Down the hallway, every day,
I find my way to you always.

[Chorus]
Happy birthday, my dearest friend,
My heart is yours until the end.
John, you're the sky I'm flyin' through,
Twenty years and still brand new.
Come rain or storm, come shine or gray,
I'll love you more each passing day.

[Verse 2]
You flew those birds above the ground,
A steady hand, a hero found.
You carried more than most men can,
A soldier and a gentle man.
Though the years have worn us thin,
Your smile still pulls me back again.

[Chorus]
Happy birthday, my dearest friend,
My heart is yours until the end.
John, you're the sky I'm flyin' through,
Twenty years and still brand new.
Come rain or storm, come shine or gray,
I'll love you more each passing day.

[Bridge]
The battle left its quiet mark,
But it never dimmed your light in the dark.
Still so strong, still standing tall,
You are my bravest one of all.

[Verse 3]
Separate rooms, but joined at heart,
No walls could keep our souls apart.
Each day I rise and count it true,
The greatest gift is loving you.
So blow the candles, feel my hand,
My John, my hero, my best man.

[Chorus]
Happy birthday, my dearest friend,
My heart is yours until the end.
John, you're the sky I'm flyin' through,
Twenty years and still brand new.

[Outro]
Come rain or storm, come shine or gray,
I'll love you more each passing day.
