Mike

[Verse 1]
A college mailroom, nineteen eighty-one,
Two hearts still young, two roads not yet run.
We married others, stayed friends through the years,
Then life brought its storms, its losses and tears.
When the world came apart, when the road went dim,
Fate opened a door, and I walked back in.

[Chorus]
Oh Mike, we were given a second chance,
A trail, a mountain, a slow country dance.
I love you, I need you, through every mile,
You love me for who I am, my heart, my smile.
Happy birthday, my love, my truest friend,
This road we're on, I pray it never ends.

[Verse 2]
You put me on a mountain in New Mexico,
Wildflowers, wonder, a world I didn't know.
From Texas to Alaska, high peaks in the sky,
Kilimanjaro's morning, that beautiful sunrise.
I threatened your toothbrush that summer we wed—
Vegas, ninety-seven, best words ever said.

[Chorus]
Oh Mike, we were given a second chance,
A trail, a mountain, a slow country dance.
I love you, I need you, through every mile,
You love me for who I am, my heart, my smile.
Happy birthday, my love, my truest friend,
This road we're on, I pray it never ends.

[Bridge]
Two daughters, one son, four grandkids grown,
"My Mike" so loved, a family our own.
Burning Man's dust, and cathedrals shown,
Twenty-nine years, and still we roam.

[Verse 3]
No more running shoes, but the love runs deep,
Golf, tennis, camping, the memories we keep.
Twenty-nine years and I'd do it again,
You're the answered prayer of a heartbroken then.

[Outro]
I'll always know you loved me true—
For what I do to you, for you, and with you.
Here's to you, Mike, the love of my life.
I love you, Mike.
