[Verse 1]
It started with an old wood fence,
A girl came leaping into sense,
She nearly knocked me off my feet,
Some things in life are just complete.
Through halls of youth we found our way,
And Renae, you're still here today.

[Chorus]
Through every storm and every year,
You've been my strength when skies weren't clear.
By God's own grace we're standing tall,
Renae, you're my sweetheart, my all.
Faith and love have brought us through,
There's no one I would trade for you.

[Verse 2]
In the cattle barn we'd sit and dream,
Rain on tin, a young man's scheme,
Of children, home, a life to share,
And oh my love, we got somewhere.
Three little ones and mountains climbed,
Thirteen grandkids now, our world defined.

[Chorus]
Through every storm and every year,
You've been my strength when skies weren't clear.
By God's own grace we're standing tall,
Renae, you're my sweetheart, my all.
Faith and love have brought us through,
There's no one I would trade for you.

[Bridge]
We faced the fight, we knelt to pray,
And Mercy carried us that day.
Lilies of the field, chocolate sweet,
You make this weary life complete.

[Verse 3]
The waterfalls we watched them all,
Fifty years and standing tall,
Now once again a road appears,
But I've got faith, and I've got years.
You're my queen, my forgiving one,
Our story's far from being done.

[Chorus]
Through every storm and every year,
You've been my strength when skies weren't clear.
By God's own grace we're standing tall,
You're my sweetheart, my all in all.

[Outro]
Fifty-eight and still I say,
Thank God He gave me you, Renae.
“Still standing tall, with God's help.”

A Beautiful story

  1. August 1963

    How We Met and Highlights

Our Story begins, when following church on Sunday there was a fire across the street on the property that her brother lived on. I went over to see what was happening and was standing beside an old wooden corral fence, made out of 2×12 lumber, when Renae came running to see what was happening and climbed over the fence practically landing on me. Our family had just moved to Letha and I was just beginning High School and didn't know anybody other than a few of the Teachers that I'd met previously in our Teachers Quroum Meeting. After dating, on and off, for a couple of years I realized how much I loved Renae when we were sitting in the feed manger of our old loafing shed, discussing how someday we would be fortunate enough to be married and to have children of our own. We had three children, we hiked and camped whenever we could in the mountains. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer at age 50. This is where the song talks about faith and prayers carried us through. One of Renae and mines favorite songs is, "Consider the Lilies of the Field". Renae's favorite treat is chocolate. "Sweetheart" is a nickname referring to her used only by me. For our 50th wedding anniversary took our trailer for a two week tour through northern Idaho and followed a route that included 13 or 14 beautiful waterfalls. What a memorable time. When the song states that a new road appears, it is referring to the journey ahead of us facing cancer again along with Kidney challenges. Faith, Hope and Love have been what carried us through, and will again I thank God He gave me you, Renae.
